The USD/JPY is experiencing volatility influenced by several factors, including market sentiment on the Fed monetary policy, economic data and possible intervention by the Central Bank of Japan.

On one hand, the dollar is benefiting from disappointing economic data out of Japan, while the US Fed seems to be preparing for a rate hike. However, overnight FOMC meeting minutes showed that policymakers have mixed feelings about the possibility of a rate hike amid lingering concerns about inflation. The U.S. economic calendar contains important data releases. Markets are watching closely for developments in US non-farm payrolls ADP and ISM, both of which are likely to have an impact on USD/JPY. Strong service sector data and positive developments in the non-farm payrolls sector may strengthen support for the Fed's hawkish policy.
However investors should pay attention to subcomponents such as prices and employment in the ISM report. Weekly jobless claims and job postings are also important data to watch.

Meanwhile, the yen is under pressure. The USD/JPY has fallen to around 144,000 amid growing concerns over the Bank of Japan's intervention in the currency market. Moreover, a senior Japanese financial diplomat Masato Kanda said that Japanese authorities are in constant contact with U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and other foreign officials on currency markets and finance. In Asia, S&P 500 futures took heavy losses and U.S. stocks were also under selling pressure due to uncertainty ahead of the quarterly earnings season.

Overall, the USD/JPY's trajectory is determined by a complex interplay of factors, including Fed monetary policy, economic data and possible Japanese government intervention. While a possible rate hike by the US Federal Reserve could put the dollar in a favorable position, intervention by the Bank of Japan could derail those gains. Investors and traders should keep a close eye on both countries' economic data and political statements.
